Roof Restoration RIP OFF
REPORTING The Roofing Group Ltd, James Clark (if that’s his real name), also marketing himself under the business name The Roofing Group Oz Pty Ltd of ABN 34 679 597 338. It is our unfortunate responsibility to advise everyone in this industry DO NOT DO BUSINESS with ‘James’. We paid $5000 to have our tiled roof sealed and painted by ‘James’. The result of the job was poor with a very uneven finish and areas with visibly poor cover. After several weeks trying to contact ‘James’, to request a review of his work, he finally returned our calls only after another business, with a very similar name, posted to a professional group on Facebook, about our experience. He then apologised profusely and promised to either give us our money back (or most of it) or allow him some time to save some money and he would come back and remedy the finish, which he agreed was sub-standard. We believe in giving people every chance to do the right thing so agreed to give a few weeks for him to be able to do the repairs. He stayed in contact for about three weeks and again has gone silent; unresponsive to our many contacts for the last six weeks. We have given ‘James’ every opportunity to fix his POOR WORKMANSHIP, yet despite his promises he has not delivered. We must, as reasonable people, take the steps we are now taking and advise everyone NOT TO DEAL with The Roofing Group Oz, ‘James’, and his business. Thankyou.
WARNING
WARNING: DO NOT HIRE JAMES CLARK (possibly an alias) FROM THE ROOFING GROUP OZ PTY LTD
James Clark, along with his associate Drew (also known as Rob), are scammers. James has even referred to someone named “Michael” as his business partner.
At the time of my research, this so-called “legitimate” company had 14 positive reviews on HiPages, but the link to those reviews has since been removed. Further investigation revealed multiple complaints filed with the Office of Fair Trading, and it’s come to light that James has scammed people not only in Queensland, but also in Western Australia.
James was hired to restore my roof, based on a detailed quote for a comprehensive job. The scope of work included cleaning the roof, removing dirt, grime, moss, and flaking paint, replacing rusted bolts and screws, repairing and replacing lead work around flutes and chimneys, and restoring valleys with a K1 70 epoxy resin. The job also included applying a rust-proof primer, two coats of colorbond paint, and a sealer to complete the roof restoration. All labour and materials were guaranteed for 10 years, at a cost of AU$5500. This agreement was completed and paid for on 06/02/2025.
While the garage and deck roof were not part of the original quote, James offered to complete them for an additional $1500 in cash whilst he was here, with no pressure to pay immediately. Regrettably, I accepted this offer.
After hearing from other victims of James Clark’s fraudulent practices, there is now confirmation that he did not perform the work as per the original quote as I have since gotten another quote to replace the roof and the photos taken confirmation the following – the roof was not properly cleaned, and it’s clear that no bolts or screws were replaced as claimed. Additionally, the lead work around the flutes and chimneys has not been fixed, as well as holes not repaired as evidenced by the persistent dripping sound during rain. The job, which was supposed to take two days, was completed in less than one.
After the job was completed and paid for, after a few days, overspray was found a my car, casement windows, and parts of the garage and deck railing and email was sent to James – he replied extremely apologetic and promised to fix the damage making a time to suit. When texting to confirm the time the day before, was told he was on the Gold Coast doing a job and he would come the next week.
Due to no shows I ended up fixing the car myself and when I emailed him – he offered a $200 discount off the outstanding $1500 owed. The overspray on the house remains unaddressed.
Further complicating matters, Drew/Rob informed me that James had fallen off a roof in Darwin, despite James previously stating he was going to a job in NSW. They claimed James’s wife instructed them to collect the outstanding money, but I made it clear that the leaks still needed fixing before any further payments were made.
Drew/Rob then falsely claimed that two team members had come to fix the leak, despite me being at home and unable to leave due to illness. When pressed, Drew/Rob gaslighted me, denying the truth and making accusations of dishonesty.
I immediately emailed James, who offered to waive the remaining $1300, and promised that his “partner” Michael would be in touch within 10 days to resolve the leak and mould damage. However, 10 days came and went without any follow-up. After several unanswered emails and phone calls, I began digging deeper and uncovered multiple negative reviews and complaints about James Clark and his team. It is clear that James Clark and his associates are deceitful and untrustworthy.
If you have had similar experiences with this company, I strongly recommend reporting them to the following authorities: the Office of Fair Trading, QBCC, ATO (for suspected tax evasion), Google, Trustpilot, and ProductReview.

Warning - cowboy with a spray gun. PERTH, BRISBANE, DARWIN BEWARE.
This guys does not have a head office like the website says. Its just a one man band who moves around Australia ripping people off. I hired James Clark to restore my roof. He promised it would look “like new”–an exaggeration I expected, but I at least anticipated a professional job. James is not a licensed roofer, not registered with the QBCC, nor a member of Master Builders as his website claims. He also promised warranties, which I never received (despite 2 emails confirming I would). He began work on a rainy day, applied one coat of paint to a wet roof, and ignored the two-day process he originally described. He left paint overspray on my new decking, which I had warned him about and even provided a tarp for–now it needs re-sanding and re-staining at my cost. No actual roof repairs were done, and parts are visibly lifting. He strung me along with excuses about paint suppliers and promised for over a month to return or refund. This morning, he was supposed to come with his brother-in-law Rob to do gutters–confirmed via text–but neither showed, and both phones are now disconnected. He may now be working in Darwin. If you’re reading this from there, consider yourself warned. He is personable, persuasive, and demands full payment upfront, then disappears. I have screenshots, emails, voicemails, and video as proof. I have screenshots of other peoples reviews who have had the same experience.
